Why clean your gutters

Gutter vacuum clearing overflowing gutters on a Belfast and Lisburn home

Gutters are there so the rain leaves your roof in the right place. When they fill with leaves, moss and silt, the water has nowhere to go. It pours over the front of the gutter, soaks the fascias and drips down onto the wall.

What blocked gutters actually do

Overflow. If water runs over the front of the gutter in ordinary rain, the gutter is packed full, not just lightly dusted with leaves.

Stained soffits and fascias. Water dripping in the same place turns white plastic grey and green, and over time it makes wooden boards soft. Lots of people book our gutter, soffit and fascia wash on the same visit as their gutter clearing.

Damp walls. Water spilling under the edge of the roof can leave damp patches high up on the render or brick, especially on the side of the house that takes the wind and rain.

Blocked downpipes. Moss and dirt settle where the gutter drains into the downpipe, so the pipe backs up even when the gutter looks empty. We flush the downpipes every time we clear your gutters.

Moss and dirt from the roof

Moss falls off the roof into the gutters all year round, not just when the leaves come down, and even a little of it packs hard once it's wet. If your roof is shedding a lot of moss, we'll tell you. A full roof clean is a separate job, and we won't try to sell it to you every time we clear your gutters.

Surveys and insurance

Surveyors often point out gutters that are blocked or overflowing. Keeping your gutters clear is basic upkeep, and it can help you avoid problems with damp if you ever need to claim for water damage. If a surveyor has mentioned your gutters, send us what they said with your quote request.

We won't tell you your insurance is invalid because your gutters were dirty, and we won't make up rules for any insurer.

Belfast, Lisburn and the autumn leaves

Homes around Lisburn and on tree lined streets in Belfast fill up fastest once autumn arrives. If you want to know when to book after the leaves fall, our autumn gutter clearing guide explains the best time.

How we clear them

Most people call the job gutter cleaning. We call it clearing, because we empty out the inside of your gutters. We do it from the ground with a gutter vacuum and a camera on the pole, clearing the upper and lower gutters and flushing the downpipes. It reaches about 40 feet on a normal house, with no ladder against your wall. There's more on our page about gutter clearing in Belfast and Lisburn.

Gutter clearing starts at £70

That price is for one or two sides of an average house. You can price the sides, garage, extension and conservatory on our instant gutter quote. If your roof is unusual or your house has three floors, we'll work out a price for it.
